1 day course covering the risk assessment of repetitive tasks for the prevention of upper limb disorders

Preliminary requirement
Delegates should have some experience of undertaking risk assessments.

Who should attend?

  • This course is designed for risk assessors that are required to undertake risk assessments for workers that carry out repetitive tasks and want to reduce the risk of upper limb disorders
  • Delegates who wish to learn how to use the risk assessment tools RULA, ART and the Body Map tool to enhance the risk assessment process.
  • The course will cover office and industrial work and will be beneficial for assessors involved in assessing different work domains.

As an assessor you will learn?

  • The legal requirements to manage ULD risks
  • The structure of the upper limb, neck and upper back and how upper limb injuries develop
  • What the key factors are that contribute to ULDs
  •  How to carry out a systematic ergonomic risk assessment using our body map tool and risk assessment checklist
  • Understand key ergonomic principles and how these relate to the risk assessment
  • How to use ergonomic tools RULA., Art and the body map tool, delegates will have plenty of time to practice using these tools when working with the case studies
  • How to control UL risk assessments

To achieve the objectives the training course is designed to be practical as possible, and to stimulate and encourage proactive behaviour and discussion throughout the day.

09.30 –10.00 The legal requirements to manage ULD risks

10.00–10.30 The upper limb

  • The structure of the upper limb, neck and upper back
  • How upper limb injuries develop

10.30 – 10.40 Mid morning break

11.10 – 11.10 What are the key factors contributing to ULDs

11.10 – 12.30 Ergonomic tools and methods relating to the assessment of repetitive tasks and identification of ULDs

  • How to carry out a systematic ergonomic risk assessment using our body map tool and risk assessment checklist
  • Understand key ergonomic principles and how these relate to the risk assessment
  • How to use ergonomic tools RULA., Art and the body map tool, delegates will have plenty of time to practice using these tools when working with the case studies

13.15 –15.00 Case studies and practical

  • Delegates will work through a number of case studies so that he or she becomes familiar with the risk assessment process and the ergonomic tools that can be used ie RULA, Art and bodymap tools
